Got a new ignition lock cylinder to replace the broken one, when i turn the key everything comes on (wait to start light, seat belt buzzer etc.) but the truck will not start. I've checked the the solonoid, and there is power going to it and it will start when i arc it. Is there a fuse somewhere between the ignition and the solonoid? id like to check that before i go and replace the solonoid. Also my truck was parked for a while, and didnt get any new diesel till just recently. I dont think ive ran ULSD in it till it broke down about a month ago. I filled up and on the freeway it started sputtering and died, is this new diesel efeting my engine or could it be something else? It will idle at really low rpms, and when i give it gas nothing happens but a bunch of white smoke it idles so low u cant even hear it inside the cab. Im thinking its the IP but am not going to jump to conclusions just yet seeing how a new one is a lot of money for a college student. any help will be greatly appreciated!
what about the electrical switch on the bottom of the steering column. I had one do the same thing and they changed that connector because it was fried.
ignition switch located at the top of the collum under the dash, there are two bolts holding the collum to the dash if you remove them you can lower the collum down a bit and you can see it, the switch has some adjustment to it, it could of slid out of position. check and see if you broke the ingition switch actuator, remove the plastic cover from the collum on the top you will see a metal rod, it connects the key switch to the ignition switch at the base of the collum, see if it flops arround with the key off
Ok you say you filled up with fuel then you had problems with runability. This tells me your fuel filter could be plugged. change filter and fill filter with clean fuel.
