I have a 97 PSD that has been acting up lately. I put my OBDII on it and it did not throw a code. It did however give me an MIL display and according to my book that has something to do with the check engine light. Any educated guesses as to what that means?
What is it doing when it acts up? I have had problems that never did throw a code, most of the time you are better off posting the symptoms here and then the smart guys tell you what is wrong. Any codes are just a bonus
How's the trans fluid? Pull much? When's the last time you had the system flushed? Mine would "stick" like that from time to time until I had a flush done, guess gunk was building up in the valves.
There are some interesting links about speed sensors an shift sensors that are in the forum, just do a search. Cuda jim and TJ beggs are smart on that stuff along with quite a few others.
Thanks for the compliment bkcowboss, but 'smart' is not one of the adjectives that has been used to describe me, TJ, yes, but.....
Anyway, meterguy, what was the code# you got for the "mil display". Also, bk is right about the speed sensor in the rear diff. Pull it out and clean the junk off it (it's magnetized) and inspect the harness/connector for corrosion and/or broken wires.
well thanks both of you for the compliments but if your really knew me.....
like jim said check your speed sensor. you have codes in there but many cheap code readers can't read powerstroked truck. you may need to pay a shop to have it scanned.
also check all your fuses. there are a number of tranny functions tied to about 5 different fuses. just check them all with a test light or an ohm meter (best way!)
