I am having one tough time trying to locate the under the dash plug to plug in the Ford supplied pig-tail for a brake controller. I have been told towards the center of the dash, but I can't find it. For those of you that have, is it a corded bundle of wires with the male end of the adapter or am I looking for something that would be totally different looking? Is it a box? What color fixture is it. I know it is not where the plug was on earlier model Superduties and the plug is much larger. Any help would be appreciated.
I have also been lead to believe that there is a set of wires that are under the hood near the fire wall that could be hard wired into, can anyone confirm this?
Thank You
Jon
The wires by the firewall are just wires that they run thru the firewall so if you ever needed to run something . They are not connected to anything .
The brake controller plug should be in the glove box . Atleast thats where mine was . Do you have the tow package ? If not you may have to see the dealer.
I have the controller pig tail that was in the glove box....What I can't find is the hook up point under the dash. In the older model it was a simple wire with the connector hanging down. I have even been told that there is now a open faced junction box located under the radio that has a place for 4 different attachment points of which only one will fit the brake controller pig tail. Even my dealer is somewhat dumb founded.
My truck came with the Class 5 receiver hitch, 4 and 7 pin plug in the back, the pig tail in the glove box. All Superduty trucks are pre wired for a brake controller...If you can just figure out how to locate the wire harness under the dash.
Hopefully someone smarter than us will come along and tell us. I never heard of the 4 plug under the dash.I don't remember mine being that hard to find. Maybe its taped to something like the radio or claimate control ??
I have a 06 SD 250 CC 6.0 Lariat LB. I do not have the intergrated brake controller but do have the tow package. If you open the little glove box below the cubby hole all the way. You have to squeeze and let it go to the floor. Then look up with a flash light in the hole you will notice two plugs that look like they are plugged into the back of the cubby hole. Voila!!! That is it. It drove me crazy when I finally figured out. One of these is for the brake controller the other best I can figure is for the uplifter switches. Hope this helps.
With very little modification I mounted the Prodigy Controller for my Trailer in the little glove box. It works fine and when not in use you close the glove box and it is out of sight. Cajun61
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
The XL Model does not have the lower glove box door. However after reading your post a few times, I went out and managed to pull out the cubby hole insert next to the up-fitter switches and low and behold there were two plugs attached to a molded in holding mount formed on the back of the insert. One of which has matching wire to match up with the controller Pig tail.
I can't Thank You enough for your find. Now I can go up to the Ford dealership and show them the secret location.
Thank you again,
Jon
So the 4 wires on the drivers side above the master cylinder near the firewall are just pre-run wires through the firewall??? Where are the other ends???
the other ends of these wires are tied to a bundle of wires directly behind the fuse box. You access by removing the panel under the steering wheel. This is also where the upfitter wires are for the 4 switches if you have them.
