Alan, I'm begining to think its believe its a tranny problem. you can duplicate it by going out to your truck and taking off from a stop in drive and then stopping and putting your truck in manual 2nd and then take off. Normally when you place your auto in manual 2nd it locks out everything else and starts out in 2nd, when you put it in 1st it locks out everything else and holds 1st. drive,of course, starts in 1st and works its way thru the gears. this one is starting out in 2nd when the tranny is placed in drive,2nd or 1st. but only when its cold. thanks for staying up with this. Barney

Barney, where are you and how cold is it? in extreme conditions the cold ambient package on the 7.3PSD 4R100 will not let the tranny shift, and will blink the O/D light at you until it warms up. (it will not set codes, since this is a normal safe mode operation) have you tried starting truck and letting it warm completley up then taking off? does it still not start in first? It might be time for a PCM reflash if truck is stock.
Just my .02
I'm in south central Idaho. Its not that cold. 20-30 degrees. snowed all day today. no overdrive light. it first started last week when it was in the 50-60's. (Love that Idaho weather.) I'll be glad when the house sells and I can get back to travelin this great country. Have F550 and 40 ft 5th wheel, will travel. LOL
