My start has been parked for a few months, and now it is stalling.
When I come to a stop sign or light,,,,, when i go to pull off it will start to move then stall.
IF you stop,,, put it in park, then shift to drive, it will go fine.
It always starts right back up and will pull off just fine after restart.
OD light will be flashing when this happens.
Had it scanned i think code was 712,, autozone said output shaft sensor. Shop scanned it with snap-on scanner got same thing, and replaced speed sensor on rear axle.
It still does it. I did not tell guys about tranny, just that it stalled and to scan it. They came back to me with same feeling,, that tranny was inbetween gears or something causing it to stall.
What do i have them do next?
I am out of town
I did not detect any miss or poor running like i have in past with bad cops. I replaced all 10 less then a year ago.
On my 04 there are 2 sensors on the transmission they are output sensors, but I was having a similar problem and changed my transmission fluid and filter and so far so good. The fluid looked fine at the dipstick but when I drained it it was definitely bad had a burnt odor to it. I would try that before getting into any sensor replacements.
The output shaft sensor is at the rear of the transmission. The thing you replaced on the rear axle is the rear anti-lock sensor.
Not exactly. While the ABS does use this sensor, the sensor on the differential is the speed sensor (VSS) which tells the computer (and the speedometer) the speed of the truck.
That code does not relate in any way to the sensor in the rear end.

It is on top of the trans, at the back of the trans, just in front of the transfer case.

What I would have them do next is take it to another shop that has some idea of how a transmission works. I think these guys know less about transmissions than the average guy on the street.
Why would they read that it is an output sensor code and change the sensor on the rear axle? The only correct answer is that they can't even buy a clue.
And as to the comment about the trans being in between two gears, that's impossible on an automatic transmission. The ONLY way an automatic can cause the engine to stall is if the torque converter clutch is applied when it shouldn't be. This shop is in WAY over their heads. They will not get this fixed, but they will use up a lot of your money and time.
Has anyone checked the transmission fluid level? Low fluid can do this.
TwoTranny shops looked at it. Second one said it was alternator. It was charching just fine BTW. Never a dead battery even after 3 hours of night driving with A/c and wipers running.
It worked !!
Also noticed that truck runs differant at idle. It used to have a surge at idle, very slight, but it is now gone.
