BB's In tires

I am getting ready to mount some 38's and was wondering if it is worth it. What are the pros and cons? I have heard many different things like plastic bb's or regular? I was wondering how many should go in? Thanks

Metal BB's can rust/corrode together to form a huge, solid lump. If Im not mistaken, there are products out there specifically designed for use in tires.

38's are not that big, and if they are radials they roll pretty true. I have an Excursion on 38's that took a conventional balance. The truck drives very well at highway speeds, and tows a pretty good size trailer. I am not a fan of adding loose material to the inside of my tires. have tried it, and had poor results.

I've got a little more than a half a cup of regular bb's in my 42's. No problems.

I had always heard of using fine sand.

> 38's are not that big

I feel so ... undersized with 33s

If my copper BBs rust (oxidize?) into a big 40mm slug I will post back, I do not think they will it being copper and all. I bought my BBs at sportsmanguide.com. You can buy plastic ones at Walmart and BudK Knives too.

I was going to use 1/4" steel shot, but, thought it would be too noisy and dangerous if a tire blew up. So, I guess I will save it for the squirrels.

There are a few topics on BBs and Equal if you do the search.

FWIW: I do not think anyone in their right mind would use sand.

Bought my tires at 4wheel parts and had discount tires mount them. They balanced pretty good. They were on 38.5 ssr's. They had 3 inch 3 oz weights that made short work of the balancing. Most needed 5oz to 9oz per side. I would go that route before putting something in the tire. I was told at 4wheel parts that Interco would void warranty if something was inside the tire.

Most places wont balance a tire if it takes more then 5 or 6 oz of weight on it. Many people use beads because the keep knocking off hammer on weights on the trail.

and how do they do this when the purpose pf a tire is to be constantly rolling??? is that the same as saying, brake rotors that sit a long time are irrepairable b/c they form surface rust, even though the first time you get rolling and hit the brakes they will clean up? just curious

been running copper BB's in my bronco and PSD the past 3 years and have had great success.

i just throw a handful of them in. suppsedly the magic number is ~10-12ozs.

They would probably break up in a few miles anyway if they clumped together. Would be an interesting couple of miles though

I got my 36s balanced on a machine though, no problems yet.

I am running lead shot and it makes the balancing smooth as glass. That's funny about only using a few ounces because when I had my 33" SSRs they took about 20 oz each. The rim looked like a big smiley

I got my 38's at National tire and Wheel and two of my four Boggers took more than 28 ounces. So instead of using all that wait I bought Equal at my local tire shop and have had no problems so far. This is the stuff my dad uses in Big Rig tires. On the side of the pouch it says exactly how much is need for what size tire.

you can use blasting medium as well... sand clumps.

as fishy said, BB's will do the trick well.

that innovative balancing is overpriced
