I am about to add Dana 60s front and rear to my '96 Bronco (cracked 8.8" at both spring perches). I believe the speedo is attached to a gear on the rear ring gear. If I change to a larger rearend, how can I get my speedo to work?
Thanks,
--LR.

That sensor in the rear diff is the ABS sensor. The speedo sensor is on the tranny output shaft. If you put a 60 in the rear, your " Rear Antilock " light will come on. No big deal.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-Sep-02 AT 09:05 PM (EST)]Seeing as you have a 96 I believe you have 4 wheel ABS. So I'm not too sure what will happen when you disconnect the ABS sensor in the rear. But I think you are correct that the speedo works off the ABS sensor in the rear diff for that year.
My suggestion is that you use a D60 from a later year that has the speedo/ABS sensor in it. This still leaves you with a potential issue with your 4 wheel ABS & how to correct it. You may be able to fool the computer by jumpering the switch on the tcase that disables the ABS system when in 4X4 (unless the 4 wheel ABS doesn't do this like the earlier RABS vehicles do). Depending on your donor vehicle for the axles you may be able to make it all work again if it has 4 wheel ABS.
No, the D60 doesn't have the exciter ring in the diff. This means no speedo, no speed sensor input to the computer, so no input for when to shift the transmission either.
There have been a few people that mounted an exciter from an 8.8 to the D60 carrier, then drilled a hole in the diff housing to mount the sensor.
The easiest swap is with a 10.25 from a '87-97 Ford F250 or F350. The D60 is considerably lighter and smaller than the 10.25, but already has the sensor installed.
