Hey y'all, I'm split between the two companies as far as F-250 SD lift kits! I saw a write up on the Superlift kit, and it seemed pretty complete and a well built lift, but the write up was more fluff than the facts. I know Fabtech makes top notch products, but I've seen squat on their 8" F-250 kit. Anyone know, yet have these kits and how they function on and off-road? TIA!
Jusy be aware with Fabtech you have alot of self fabricating to do. My friend and I put one on hi 72 Chevy, and it took alot of time on a mig. Other than that its works great. The truck rides well and there is no lack of suspension flex for his 38's. I have a Superlift 6" and I am very pleased with it. The instructions were laid out barney style (idiot proof) and the ride is better than stock. Wether or not I go up to the 8" will depend on what vehicle I buy next. If I get the Saleen Mustang I want the 6" stays, but if a new truck then in goes the 8". The only thing with the install was I wish I had a right angle drill for the TTB mount. But if you have a different set-up then it wouldn't matter. If you like a do-it-all-yourself project with the ability to change something if it doesn't "seem" to fit perfect then Fabtech, if you want a clean easy laid out install then Superlift. Don't forget with the Fabtech a welder will be needed. I know this isn't exactly what you were looking for, but I don't know your limitations, or what type of project you are looking for. I do hope this helped some though.
Welding is just outside of my field of expertise. I was putting the Superlift as my first choice, and the Fabtech second. I talked (ok...chased down) this guy with a F-250 with the 8" Fabtech lift, he said it wasn't much of a hassle, but it rode stiff as hell. He also told me that the Fabtech lift was a "go-no-go" affair. Some parts went smooth as can be, and other parts just didn't go at all. I poked around a bit today at the local 4x4 shop, and they recommened the Superlift over the Fabtech for two reasons: 1. I'll be doing a lot of on road driving, Superlift is near or better than stock suspension 2. The Superlift kit is much more of a bolt-on process (even though I'll have a Ford Certified mechanic helping out), and it's very suitable for everyday use. They said that if I was going to go for a full off-road setup, the Fabtech would be first. Ths truck is going to be my daily driver, and I do have a limited budget on this project. I'm not going to be doing anything too gonzo with the truck, just beach running (soft, deep, baby powder sand), and in the brush (lots of mud, heavily rutted two track trails). So that just goes along with my original plan, thanks for the response though!
I have the 8 in. Fabtech kit on my superduty with the dual shocks. It is a pretty stiff ride. I haven't driven in another superduty with anything else though so I can't really compare. People have told me that the dual shocks do make the ride stiffer, but again, I've only ridden in ones with dual shocks. I would like to know if anyone else has experience with another 8 in. lift kit on the newer Superduties (Super Lift, Sky Jacker, Pro Comp, etc.) and how their ride is. Also, if they have dual or single shocks.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Dec-01 AT 01:17 AM (EST)]hummm.... well ok.
i am running the fabtech 8" with the rear spring pack and a single shock setup (RS 9000s)..... the ride of the truck is just slightly stiffer than stock and imo, not bad at all.
as for installation.... ??? i had the 4x4 shop do it and as far as i know, it was 100% bolt on with no modifications/fabrication.
comparing a lift on a 72 or one that runs on a truck with TTB to a late model superduty is NOT a comparision! they are DIFFERENT animals!
but... as my two cents goes.... the fabtech is a great kit and i would do it again... well, if money permitted, i might have gone with a custom 25" spring lift... lol... but unlike some ppl... i don't have 20-30k to throw at a lift job
you know who you are drew and it is only my jealousy talking dude.... i want to see more pics!!!
the fabtech is alot better kit and wont sag like the superlift fabtech spring are real progresive i swear by them I did my brothers superduty durict bolt on if you do the 11inh then you have to have the drag link adjuster lenghend
