So, we just made this purchase of an '01 7.3 Limited Excursion (49,000 miles).
Have owned an '00 V10 Excursion XLT (96,000 miles) for the past 7 years (and not ready to let her go yet!).
Love the Excursion...Great for the family & towing our 8600# Trailer.
Maybe I'm spending too much time reading all these CPS horror stories online.
I'm not sure if I like this thought of the CPS "can go out at any time" feeling.
Does anyone know if there are certain conditions that increase the CPS failure rates? Hot climates? Off roading? High humidity? Cold?
If you don't have one with you, and you are late for an appointment, it will fail, leaving you stranded.
No, actually, mine has been hiccuping for the last year and a half, but I haven't really wanted to crawl under and replace it. I do carry a spare and a 10mm wrench with me just in case.
The other week, while I was waiting for my daughter, I crawled under, and removed and reseated the plug to see if there was any corrosion in it. It hasn't hiccuped since. I wonder if most of the failures are bad connections?
