My 02 excursion is driveing me nuts. In the last 7 months i have gone thur 5 cps units. The last one is a blue international one. I was driveing down the road yesturday around 55 (takeing it easy going to soccer practice), when I took my foot off of the excel pedal the rpm dropped to about 1200 rpm and when I went to push to excel pedal again..... nothting then it flat lined. The thing runs fine and starts fine. Am I just getting bad cps or is there another problem that could be acting the same way? On my old 97 psd. I have used the same cps for along time and lots of miles and no problem.
the excursion started right up without any more problems. But the other times it done it it may or maynot start back up.
Ok all you gurus, lets put our thinking caps on and get this straightened out because it is my wifes and I dont want to get ride of it. She is loseing confidence in it and is turning on the heat for me to get it taken care of or else.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Are you sure the CPS is the problem? Is it chipped, and possibly has a bad or loose connection at engine ecm?
When I first got my truck there was a banks chip in it, and the tape came loose. Every now and then when I would hit a bump, hit the brakes, release the park brake, and every now and then when I let off the accelerator pedal, it would die. I would have to shut off the key for a second or two, then it would restart. Once it was taped in, I never had the problem again.
I had the same thing happening turned out to be the safety fuel shut off switch. On the passenger front kick panel way we figured it out was a meter on it it would loose power feeding through and the truck died. hope this could help
sounds similar to my problem when my IPR went out. it wouldn't restart for me untill it cooled off. my IPR solonoid was the problem maybe for you it's not the solonoid, but the innerds. worth a try, i got one for 170 if i remember, someone here on this forum. i could look harder, let me know. Ford wanted 311, International wanted 270. To me, $170 (new motorcraft) was worth trying after 2 cps and not any better. very easy process. you could buy a kit, a kit wouldn't help me because the kit does not come with the solonoid. Let us know how it's going!

Does this mean you can't buy the solenoid separate from the IPR?
The IPR won't necessarily throw any codes either. Also, it's more prone to act up when the truck is warm or hot and the oil has thinned out a little. Will act fine when cold.
i have and edge evolution programmer and a 6637. I am going to try the IPR. I found one on ebay for 120 + 15 shipping, does any one else know where I can get one for less?
Thanks for all of the input and help. FTE rules. I will let everyone know if the IPR fixes the problem assoon as I buy one and get it installed. Bye the way the local international dealer wanted $239.55 and had two instock. That is a large price to pay for convienence, lol.
Robin, sorry so late. Yup, i couldn't buy just the solenoid separate.
I bought a genuine Motorcraft on here, I'll have to look through to remember the fine gentleman that sold it to me. $170.
Yup, when mine went, i never got a code, it would run fine cold. I actually iced the IPR down when it died, and it would fire up and run for a while again. otherwise, i would have to wait 20-50 minutes for it to cool enough.
