i just bought a 79 302 and put it and the rear main seal was leaking so i droped the tranny and replaced the rear main seal but saw nothng wrong with it soo i changed it any way and staggered it used silicone .and got it back together and it is still leaking i cant figure it out is there a break in time for a rear main seal .im going crazy i reallly dont want to drop the oil pan and tranny again .so i guess ill be feeding it lots of oil until i fix it in the futre .maby u guys cam help me figure out whats wrong before i drive it off a cliff.
Did you look at the crank where the seal rides? They can get groove worn and a new seal won't help. I know you can get a speedi-sleeve for the front seal maybe for the rear too.
Yea, there's no groove, but there is a lip on the inside, this must point towards the inside of the engine. If it faces the outside, it'll let the oil right thru.
yes i put the lip on the inside .maby illl hook up the pvc valve to some manafold vac to see if that helps .im thinking its the hv oil pump .thanks guys
As Hemi already stated, a High volume pump has nothing to do with a rear main seal leak. You've got about an inch gap behind the rear main to the seal, there's no oil pressure at or on the seal.
