well i got the shock of my life this morning driving to work. i hear something u shouldnt be hearing....all the lug nuts flew off and two studs are broke off my passenger side front tire. so i pulled over and my wheel was on a 30 degree angle! i just got this new 35 in maxxis tires a few months ago and i didnt retighten the lugs after a few days of driving it. i didnt think they needed to be checked...which is my fault. anyways, i replaced broken studs before but those were on newer 2wd trucks. this truck is a 78' ford 4x4 with lockout hubs on the front...i cant seem to get the rotor off the axle to get the new studs in...do i have to take the whole hub apart or what?! any help would be helpful guys!--ryan
It's not bad as long as you have the correct tools. You will need a 4 prong hub wrench (if you don't already have one) to get the nuts off of the spindle. If you try and use a chisel to get them off (like I did when I was young and dumb), you will ruin the nuts. If you don't have the hub wrench, you can get one from most auto parts stores for aroung $15. Don't forgrt that there are 2 nuts on the spidle with a washer in between them. A pair of snap ring pliers are needed to get the hub gear out of the hub.
