I haven't been able to look into the manual yet, but I'm wondering if the battery gauge I took from 1988 F250 had a shunt resistor across the gauge to limit current through the gauge. I'm using alternator with 12 volt conversion in my 1950 F1.
I looked im my notes; when tearing down the instrument cluster from my 1990 Crown Vic I noted that there was a resistor in that circuit to battery gauge. Any input welcomed.
The shunts I have seen are in the wire from the alternator output to the starter relay battery positive post. They look like a large black wire with two smaller wires tapped off either end that go to the ammeter.
I am not too sure of the 88 setup, but up to 86 maybe 87 they used the shunt I described above.
