i drove my 49f1 for a year with the 239 flat head in it,it ran like a top when i took it out back in the fall.i have priced it to a few with trans for 1000.00.i may be asking to much?but if i had to find one i would have to pay more for it.if i still have it when my truck is done i will make a rat rod with all my old part's,old cab,old bed and spare frame.if it has any crack's in it i don't know, but it run's good and don't use any oil.it's all in the want and demand story
the wateroutlets are in front. The truck was an old Phone Co truck My dad says he he had a 48 f3 wrecker when he was a kid and it was the same way. Anyone local want to make an offer before it comes out and you cant hear it run. This motor will not be shipped pickup only
Are the water outlets on the heads in the center of the engine, or at the front? I don't know of any 8BA's that used studs. How many studs are there? It may be a 59AB, which would be worth some serious money if in good condition.
Bernard, welcome to FTE! You might want to start a new thread as this one is 17 years old.
It would help to know where you are geographically. Check the for sale forum here. Also ebay is an option.
You want a 59 series flathead for your 48 car to keep it period correct.
Incidentally, TravisT's info above is incorrect. The 8RT/8BA series flathead debuted in the 48 pickups January 16, 1948 with the new model F1 truck. Cars kept the 59 series flathead until summer/fall 1948 with the1949 car model.
