Have a '51 ford pickup with flathead 6. Can I take that out and bolt in a flathead V8. Will the bolt holes line up in the bellhousing with the V8 engine? Easy swap?
It's as easy as they get, just need to go back with stock parts:
-- V8 clutch cover
-- move radiator back to V8 location, and replace with V8 radiator
-- air deflectors under the hood are different and further back on V8
-- air deflector in front of the bottom of the radiator is deeper on V8
-- buy the appropriate V8 motor mounts
-- the battery was on the opposite side on V8's
-- fuel line is very different
-- engine electrical needs modification
-- different throttle linkage
The clutch cover is the ring-shaped piece that bolts to the engine. What model is your truck? What trans do you have now? Regardless, from the clutch cover back, everything is the same whether it's a 6 or V8.
