So I was coming home from work today and i heard this loud bang when I got around 2200 rpms...wasn't really getting on it but was blowing a little smoke. I limped on back home to find that my intercooler pipe had blown off. I put it back on and snugged all the other boots down. Is there anything else I should do or just keep checking the clamps occasionally. I figured the reason it blew off was because I just put in the TS chip so I have more boost now and the clamp just couldn't hold it.. Help please.
Not to worry. That's one of those "stuff happens" kind of deals. Oil film works it's way through the pipes and sometimes makes the connections work loose. A good cleaning of the pipes and connections every once in awhile keeps those events at a minimum.
It does wake you up though, doesn't it?
I agree with Kwik, those boots have to be clamped on tight. When I put the 6.0L intercooler in, I didn't get a new clamp for the 3" inlet, and instead used the 3.25" clamp on the boot. Thought it was fairly tight and snugged it down. On the test drive it blew off at only 15 psi. Learned my lesson: snug doesn't work. Now I've got a 3" clamp on there and it holds 30 psi without a problem.
