The center console has a flip up cover and the cover itself has broken, i've gone to several local Ford dealers and they all tell me the same thing "Sorry cant help you" anybody got a suggestion on where I might be able to locate a replacment cover for the center console. 2000 Ranger 60/40 split seats. The exsisting cover color is Praire Tan.
Can't they get you a whole replacement console? Surely with it only being a 2000 there should be some left in the warehouse, they probobly just won't sell the lid seperate. The only thing I could sugest is to go to some local junkyards and see if there's a ranger or explorer that has one you like that will fit. It wouldn't have to be the exact same style as long as you were taking the whole console as long as the color matched. Swapping in explorer consoles is a pretty popular upgrade in the ranger comunity.
it sounds like the same thing that happened to my 98, the lid wont close right? the only "repair" ive been able to find is one of those headbands that girls put around there heads, the ones that look like big hairties......just put that around the entire center console, and it holds the lid shut wen its on....other than that, i would say just get a new center console, because i think its more the lock on the console part than the cover itself
60/40 seat, and the lid opens towards the passenger seat. There is a plastic part that latches onto the main part of the console and the plastic piece broke so now the lid just stays open.
My 98 has done the same thing. The plastic latch in the lid has broken and it doesn't always lock into place. I feel that this is from using the console as an arm rest for 173,000 miles. The local dealer quoted me $213.00 plus tax for a new console box (They do not offer just the lid). I refuse to give in to them. I plan on taking the lid off the console and try to remove or disconnect the spring that causes the door to pop open. Then gravity should keep it closed. I have also been watching Ebay. There are several used console boxes and lids listed there. Good luck.
Don. if the lid. henge and spring are all in relatively good condition, I'm sure you can find a way to keep it closed, in fact you could even improve on the cheap original design. It would be quicker, cheaper, and a lot less hassle.
This must have been a problem for Ford, as my 2001 the lid hinges back, not to the passengers side.
Mike.
Yeah, the design is terrible. I think that what usually breaks them is if you try to pick your butt up out of the seat by putting your right elbow on it, and happen to put your elbow in just the wrong spot, it breaks the top.
I use a necktie to hold mine shut (it was there when I got the truck), and it works very well. Slides off easily to get into the console, and pretty much stays put otherwise. I've had a bit of practice, and can now open and reclose the console very quickly and easily with one hand while driving. I'd consider replacing it, except that I figure I'd probably break it again, anyway.
Well Ford Rangers are not the only crap latches on console lid's, my Buick Park Ave will pop its lid if you lean on it sideways, what do you expect from a $0.15 latch.
