I am wondering when it the best time/way to wash out the engine area or if this is a good idea at all. I got to looking at mine and it looks like there is a lot of dirt/water/mud/salt that has been thrown up in there. I know that I should wash it when the engine is cold, I live about a block from the carwash so I can do it first thing in the morning after it has sat all night. But, should I leave the engine running when I am doing this? Are there some special things I need to watch out for, or some areas that I should clean extra well. I started to see a little rust on the master cylinder so I would like to clean the whole area out. Thanks!
There are no ignition wires to get wet, so I wouldnt leave the truck running. I have washed mine out before, no problem. I just make sure I get all the soap of by giving it a good rinse.
I wash mine cold, but I don't think it really matters. I use Simple Green or some Orange cleaner. It works good to loosen up the dirt and just spray it off with a hose. Just don't hold the hose in one place to long and try not to force water into any connectors. It doesn't take a powerful spray to rinse it off.
Yeah, I know. Some people don't like to use Simple Green on AL. I haven't personally had a problem with it, but I don't let it sit there for very long either. It will cause a reaction though as I have seen it on others cars. Won't hurt anything.
It is nice to have a clean engine to work on and keep it looking good. People will comment on it too.
i belive in letting a hot engine run ,cold water and a hot turbo not good may cause it to crack cast is a funny metal when it comes to fast temp change its like turning your hot shower to cold its a shock to your system
