I just got back from hauling some stuff in my F150 Lightning and now remember why I HATE the shorter boxes. I'm quite content that the '08 F450's only comes in the long box or else I might have made a mistake with my order.
I've never understood the short bed for a pick-up, but I have to use trucks daily for my construction biz so I have to have the extra length...wish they had a 12' bed LOL!! I see the "sport box" and short box for the crowd that wants a truck for daily driving just cuz it's cool to have one. From a pracicality stand point...they're a joke, and everybody I've known personally in the "soccer dad" catagory with short boxes vow never again
I just bought my 03 F250 Crew and was talking to the previous owner. He needed to downsize so he traded the 250 for a 150. He bought a bed cover for the 250 new and when he traded, he pulled it out thinking he would install in in the 150...but it didn't fit. Both have the "6 Foot Bed" but he says the 250 bed is longer and wider than his 150 bed.
Not sure whether you don't want us gassers to vote, or whether it slipped your mind.... but you did post in the SuperDuty/HeavyDuty forum, and that's what I'm drivin.... so here goes...
I got the 8' box so that I can load my Harley and still close the tailgate. It's also the only way to get the larger OEM gas tank..
(OK let the cracks about a gasser needing the larger tank roll..)
Dont forget soccer dad's and wanna be cowboys that have no true use for a truck other than to boost their macho limbido LOL!!!
Seriously though, we haul lumber of all sizes and I can easily haul 12' boards no problem with my 8' bed, we've even been forced to in situations fo 14', anything bigger I will take the trailer or use the trucks with the racks. Yes, you can drop the gate on a short bed, but having the boards angled up is what helps keep it down in the bed under acceleration from a stop light as opposed to sitting flat which can shoot it right out the back of the truck...seen it happen. Or else these guys do like my brother in law with his '07 CC short box and open the rear slider and stick the boards into the passenger compartment and rest them on the dash...stupid. But if you have to use your truck, anybody i the know, knows there is no way a short box is worth a **** other than collecting leaves and rain....dont know why they stopped making El Camino's since that's basically all these short boxed trucks area anyways, and at least guys would get better milage on their way to their white collar jobs
