I was woundering if anyone has advice on how to pull the gear of the bottom of the distributor? I have an 84 BII and am rebuilding the distributor and am having a hard time taking this thing off so I can replace my distributor pickup.
Unless you have something very unusual all that should need to be done is remove the pin holding the gear and then take a light hammer and a block of
hard wood and drive the shaft out of the gear. You may be able to take the distributor in your hand and with the block laying on the bench pound the end of the shaft on it and it should come off. Never really saw any that were very tight.

See following post.
Hold on a minute I don't think you want to take the gear off. Clamp that distibutor in a vise, get two medium screwdivers under the reluctor or trigger wheel. It should pry up real easy. There is a locator pin under it don't loose
it. Now you can get the plate out and do your work. Peplace the trigger wheel
by getting it lined up and light hammer and punch back on.

The gear comes off. It's held in place by a roll pin. Remove the roll pin (will probably take a small drift punch or drill bit) and then tap the gear off the shaft end. I don't recall ever seeing a Ford distributor that the gear didn't come off the end of the shaft, but it's been a while since I rebuilt a points-style or Duraspark-style distributor.
