Hello guys, I am swapping a steel gear onto my 1990 5.8 distributor to go into a 94 5.8. My question is how hard is this to do. I don't have a gear puller, a really don't want to mess anything up. Would I be better off to take both distributors to a shop and have them do it? Thanks,
Ryan
It's simple enough with this distributor, remove the drift pin in the gear with a small punch and then attach a 2 or 3 jaw puller to the gear and crank it off of there. Reinstalling the gear is done with a press ideally but can also be done with a hammer and appropriate sized socket, and obviously you want the hole in the gear to line up with the hole in the shaft so the drift pin can be re-installed. This sound difficult but if you line it up initially the gear tends to go straight down the shaft.

OK thanks I am probably going to rent a puller from auto zone, assembly sounds simple enough.
