I have a question that maybe you electronics /computer guru's can help me with. I had to replace my battery today. After I installed the new one I knew that it would have reset my computer. So I took it out for a long highway drive, about 30 miles, because I had read here on FTE that it takes a certain amount of time driving for the computer to cycle through. The problem was that it took about 10 miles before the Torque Converter would lock in and I was starting to get worried because I know that TC problems are the first sign of tranny failure in these trucks.
My truck is an '01 250 v-10 with the 4r100. It had about 74K when I bought it and has 83k now. When I bought it I installed a TransTech shift kit, the inside and fluid was very clean.
Today I had driven around for about 20 minutes before I switched the battery, so the truck was already warmed up. When it's cold it usually takes about 1-2 miles to warm up enough to get lock up.
I know that the TC lock is controlled electronically so I'm guessing that if it was a mechanical failure there should have been some idiot light to indicate that.
After it finally locked I had no further problems.
So, after all this my question is...Should I worry about this?
Thanks guys. I was a little freaked out b/c my mother in law just bought a '40 TT to put on a permanent site down on the bay. I have to go pick it up in 3 weeks and tow it 100 miles to the site. The last thing I need is to have my tranny shell out while towing her brand new trailer...how embarrasing!
