7.3 "loading" when cold
I have a '97 F250 7.3 with 246 K miles. When I purchased the truck, it had 180K. I have noticed from the time that I purchsed the truck, whenever it was started wheather it be warm or cold, the engine would seem to "load up" for about 10 seconds then go back to regular idle. This would only happen at start up, and would run fine after that.
Over this winter, I have noticed that when the temp is below 40 outside, the "loading" is more frequent even after start up. It does it over and over again when the truck is in motion or throttle is being applied. It does not stop this until the engine is at normal operating temp.
I have discussed this with other 7.3 owners and they say that they have the same reation at start up. But no one really knows what causes this. Does anyone know what it is and is it harmful?
