newbie question
Hey guys, I just inherited a 96 F150 XLT with the 5.8 motor. Was looking up parts for it and need to know how to find the engine code. I think its supposwd to be an H or I but dont know how to tell which it is. The truck only has 64000 miles on it. Anything in particular I need to be checking and doing to it? Thanks for any help.

The 8th digit of the VIN is the engine code. H is correct for the 5.8.

a general tune up wouldnt be a bad idea if you dont know when the last one was.....plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, oil change, oil filter. Only 64000, thats a nice truck.

Nice truck, congrats and welcome.
I always change every fluid when I get a vehicle.
Also, make sure that you are full of blinker fluid, make sure that the muffler belt is tight, and see what condition the 10" dikfore is in.

Hahahahahahaha......excellent advice....although I think mine must be more heavy-duty, as mine is an 11" dikfore. yeah right....

Those kinds of miles I would give it the full work up. Change all fluids, trans, transfer case (if it is 4x4) and gear lube in axle(s). Tune up would also be a good idea, otherwise should be good to go.
Congrats on getting a nice truck, I am sure it will serve you well.

???
"Blinker Fluid" has been a joke long before Al Gore even invented the Internet.
To the OP, don't forget to inspect the muffler bearings for play.

Perhaps inspect the turbo-encabulator made of pure crapalloy.
Got a good giggle on this one guys.
Seriously though, as all the rest said, ALL the fluids and filters, cap, rotor, wires, plugs. Ditto on the low-mileage find.
