Just lately I noticed (when I turned the stereo down) that my truck is making a kind of air noise (whooshing ) when im barely accellerating. The noise is coming out of the exhaust. It will also seem to want to cut out like it is starving for fuel. Not cutting out as stopping the engine but surging. It does this in the 20 degree range before completely warming up. Didnt know if the glow plugs may be causing this by not firing when they should to maintain cylinder temp.
The truck on occasion since I have noticed this (whooshing ) has not started very well after 8 plus hours of sitting in 15 to 20 degree weather. It will rough start and shake/chug like the glow plugs may not be warming the cylinders enough.
Any advice would be appreciated I havent had this problem with any diesel I have owned before. I probably need a scanner to verify codes since many sensors control the cold start of a diesel.
Exhaust Backpressure Valve...Just a valve in the exhaust right after the turbo, that partialy closes when it's cold to help the engine warm up quicker. Makes kinda of a hissing sound too. Do a search for EBV or the like, lots of disscution/explanations about it now that it's cold out...
