Question about noise after timing chain replacement
Thanks for all of you help over the past few days with me replacing my timing chain, water pump, smog pump, thermostat and other minor sensors etc... I figured that since I had it apart, I would do everything that needed to be done.
I just now cranked my Bronco (1989 w/302) and there is a slight piter pater. Does that make sense ? It's hard to describe but it is not something that sounds really that bad.
Here is what I think it could be but want some expertise on it since I am by no means a mechanic. Before I replaced my timing chain and sprockets, I was about 15% out of time. Now that I have a new timing chain, could it be that I just need to set the timing as you normally would with a tuneup etc...? I don't have a timing light so I may take it to a mechanic friend of mine. If it is timing, could I do it if I bought a timing light ? If so, what kind of light do I need ?
Once again, I REALLY, REALLY do appreciate all of the help and responses that I have had from numerous people here at FTE.
Sorry to be so longwinded but I am so grateful for everything.
And yes, I did get the gears perfectly aligned, so that is not an option.
