ok im planing on building a non-roller lifter 392 EFI MASS air stroker motor and i had a few questions. its going into a 4x4 f250 that is lifted with 35in. tires. it is my daily driver and tow vehicle that also sees its fair share of trails. here are my questions.
1. what would be the best ford head to use?
2. what would be the best cam to use?
3. i know i need to use .030 over 302 pistons but should i go with stock or somthing else?
4. what kind of power and torque would i be looking at?
im not tring to build a mud bog truck, just somthing that will have more torque and power to play around with and still get somewhat ok fuel mileage
Try looking at the specs for the GT40X heads. Those are some of the better Ford produced Windsor heads. Questions 2 and 4 are all dictated by the same thing, the cam. Take a look at some cam profiles and post the grinds here. Some of us on the board have destop dyno and would more then likely post power #'s. Remember we would need to know valve sizes and a few other basic things to plug #'s in. The pistons should be better then cast IMHO. If you build the short bolck as stout as you can you can upgrade the heads and so on without having to do a complete tear down to handle the extra power. Most daily drivers only see a max of 5500 rpm so keep that in mind. You can build a 500HP 392 stroker that will drink a tank of gas between gas stations if you set your goals too high.
im thinking of using the cast iron gt40 heads and doing a mild port on them. i would be happy with 380 f/t lbs of torque and 350-400 hp. im not tring to go all out just have a fun truck to drive. is a skat crank a good crank? i can get a good deal on one if they are any good
If you have a LOT of time, there is a lot of good information on thread (Went to see the custom engine builder). This thread is specifically geared towards a 393 stroker build, yet its some 1,000 posts deep, so it takes a lot to read.
