Guys. What exactly is the standard tow package that's included in the Limited when you get it?
I noticed that some of your questions weren't answered. So I thought I'd try. Standard "tow package" is the hitch & electrical connections. Since you cannot get an Excursion WITHOUT the tow "package", to call it a package is kind of a misnomer.
What kind of tow package comes with the telescoping mirrors?
These are a seperate option on the order sheet.
What can I tow with the standard package? The full weight allowed?
There are many variable to this. The manual will state what the max towing is HOWEVER you may not be able to tow that much. You have to be away of what you vehicles Gross Weight Restriction (or rating) is PLUS the COMBINED weight Restriction (or rating). There is the distinct possibility that you can be at full GVW of the truck with passengers, fuel, cargo etc. and not have the available rating to carry the trailer's hitch weight. This same scenario can play out if you can carry the hitch weight but the trailer and truck loaded are over the COMBINED GVW.
MAX tow weight are great when selling trcuks but it is a bit mroe complicated than just hooking up 5 tons and movin' out down the road. Plus, anything over 5K really needs a weight distributing hitch. Although I regually tow 6500lbs of horses and trailer without one.
Is it ready to tow from the factory? Ie, it comes with ball and hookups, all I need is a trailer?
Just FYI, The designation v5 that you find on the hitch sticker is telling you that it meets the V-5 standards. V-5 is the name of a set of specifications that was produced by a industry organization. It is not the class of your hitch. The class rating of the hitch is
1) set by the maker of the hitch. The hitch maker will determine the amount thae hitch can take, and set the guidelines. What they say the class is, is what it is. However, the class rating weights are different among manufacturers.
2) Set by the auto maker. When a class IV hitch is put on a vehicle that cannot pull more than class III, the auto maker will state clearly that the hitch on that vehicle is a class III. Again, the vehicle class weight ratings are different among auto manufacturers.
The only way to really know what a vehicle/hitch classification and weight rating are is to see the vehicle maker information.
Reese may sell a class V Titan reciever that can take the weight, but putting it on a Pinto will not make the Pinto able to pull 12500 lbs.

My 2000 has a class 5.
I use a class 5 draw bar, and a ball rated at 24K lbs.
I do not use weight distributing systems.
My trailer is right near 13,000 lbs (Sled pull truck, tractor weights, 4x4x8 shed with compressor, generator, 4 optional tires/wheels, all had and power tools, floor jack, 2 spare trailer wheels/tires and more)
I have been using this 28 foot bumper pull trailer for years like this and pull with a 99 F-350 Crew cab long bed SRW, or the 2000 Excursion....depends on how many are going and how far we are going.
The brakes work great, suspension handles it great with the upgraded springs (I have 1-Ton springs front and rear, and an add-a-leaf in both ends, and 4" blocks on the rear) I did add the Helwig rear sway bar, Powerslot cryo rotors and Hawk LTS pads all the way around.
I run a DPP built 4R100 cause the tranny crapped out at 40K miles. Now I run a full power pack equiped trans with the TransGo 4R100 HD2 kit and added the TransGo 4R100-RU kit to the pump as well. I also stacked a 8 pass cooler after the stock cooler, and opted for a billet triple disc converter.
With the lifted suspension (1-Ton), 33" tires, power adding junk, brake system upgrades and tranny upgrades.... I do believe I can throw a chain around the moon and safely and easily tow that SOB to the otherside of morning!
Who made your hitch for the 2000? It wasn't Ford. The only one that I know of that is rated for class V and fits the Excursion is the Pullrite. It still does not make the Excursion able to tow class V safely.
Yea, I am sure its unsafe...after putting 110,000 miles on the F-350 like this and 50K miles on the Excursion. Its real unsafe. I wont argue this opinion.....Over...and Out.

That's a lot of weight! Every help 18 wheelers get unstuck? Like that commercial, hehehe

ok, now i am really confused now. so whats the deal with the factory hitch. i have a pic of the sticker and the hitch in my gallery. it all came from the factory with that hitch. can someone tell me what the rating of it is? thanks. its an 01 limited v10 4x4 with 3.73 limited slip.
Juiri...Just for your information ... Last month my father in law had a Kodiak 10-ton truck pulling 49' flatbed trailers out of his field and the kodiak got buried in mud about 3 feet deep. I showed up with my Excursion with its Interco STS MT tires and backed in and threw a Pro-Comp 30 foot by 4 inch retrieval strap on it and I commenced in backing up a few feet in low range and mashing it. I jerked the kodiak a few feet each time. After a few hard hits I had it out. Then I strapped to the flat bed trailers and started jerking them....dragging the lages in the mud... I got one of them out just to prove I could! The guy in the Kodiak warned me to not even try to get him out cause I will break my SUV...I just laughed and told him get ready. Yea, I can pull a GMC Kodiak tractor out of mud upto the center of the wheels.

All you really need to know is that the rating of the hitch meets or exceeds your 9600lb towing rating. However, the capacity should be stamped on the receiver itself.
Biggest mistake is when folks get a drawbar and/or ball that is not rated for the weight they are dragging behind them. Unless you only tow less than 5K, don't shop for a drawbar & ball at Wal-Mart.
Sure! HOWEVER! Make sure your 22's are rated for the weight on that axle! Meaning BOTH wheels & tires!
I will say that early build Excursion had a lower tow rating than later ones and nothing changed except for the addition of E-rated tires from the factory.
