Standard tow package question

Guys. What exactly is the standard tow package that's included in the Limited when you get it?

What kind of tow package comes with the telescoping mirrors?

What can I tow with the standard package? The full weight allowed?

Is it ready to tow from the factory? Ie, it comes with ball and hookups, all I need is a trailer?

Thanks

George

The tongue weight and trailer tow capacity should be on the sticker on the receiver. The ball and hitch are sold seperately. Standard trailer wiring for 4 and 6 plug tailers is included with the tow package. If you buy a trailer with electric brakes you will have to add a brake controller inside the cab, but wiring is under the dash with a open plug so its a plug and play if you get the wiring adapter with the brake controller. I hope this helps

No, you don't get the ball and hitch because there are so many different combinations that the different trailers require. They are relatively cheap and you can get them everywhere.

The weight rating of what you can tow depends on the hitch. The stock class III hitch you can tow up to 5000 lbs, and if you have a weight distribution or load leveler hitch you can tow up to 10,000 lbs. Ford has this requirements for warranty and a#* coverage purposes. You will find a wide range of opinions on this discussion board about the use of weight distribution hitches.

I personally tow routinely a 6500 lbs trailer without a WD hitch, but do use a WD hitch when I tow the big trailer that is around 9500 lbs fully loaded.

Ex's are fantastic tow vehicles. They are the best I've ever used, and I tow a lot. Here's a shot of the big trailer I tow.

just remember, because the hitch has 1 rating, mine is 12500#, doesn't mean that the vehicle can really handle that. check you owners manual on what the vehicle can tow, not the hitch. it seems pretty obvieous that you never really towed before if you are asking if the truck comes with the hitch ball. do alot of reading and ask more questions. there are alot of people here that are willing to get you going in the right direction. and do it safely. good luck..

I was just remembering off the top of my head. Class III, IV, or V are all heavy duty hitches that can handle big loads and work well with weight distribution hitches. Heck, a class V hitch can handle more of a load than an Ex can safely tow anyway. Any factory installed hitch is what I was referring to, and that what the original post was about.

Sorry for the a slip of the old memory!

I won't be towing anything but at all, at least not before asking questions. I was just curious what I CAN do with it out of the box so to speak so I don't go and hook up a trailer and for some reason it shouldn't do it.

I'll be back with more questions when and IF I get the truck.

there's not really that much that you can't tow with the X. you can tow a pretty big camper, car trailer and so on. your manual will tell you exactly. the v10- 2wd or 4wd, with 3.73 or 4.30 gears. the diesel 2wd or 4wd, with 3.73 or 4.30. the diesel with the 4.30 will tow the most. but even then its only like 11000?? you can seafly tow 10000#...

Sorry, but no 4.30s with the diesel. Only in the F350 Tow Boss package can you mate 4.30s with a PSD.
