Rear End Oil Change, Need answer quick !!

Reading thru Customz step by step process to change the rear gear oil, he states the change will also need to include 4oz of modifier

However, my Ford book calls for 8oz of the modifier.

Need to know what to do quick, getting cold and dark on me

Thanks

Try 4oz to start. If the diff still chatters on slow tight turns add more until the chatter just goes away. Don't use too much.

Some diff fluids do not require additive, check the bottle and see if the truck chatters.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

I squeezed the whole tube of FM in my diff and it works like a jewel, I forget what the size of the tube was

Some people like to double the friction modifier in diffs. Others use oils with modifiers already in them. With the oil they were using, they may have already had some modifier in it and they only wanted some fomoco in there too.

Whatt happens if you do not have enough LS modifier?

The diff chatters and makes a little noise while you take corners. The modifier is just to reduce the noise.

The idea is that 8oz is normal and the LS slips more, and 4oz makes the LS slip a bit less and work more agressively. If it grips too tightly on 4oz and chatters around turns, you can add more until you're happy.

At least that's how I understand it from past threads.
