My 2000 5.0 EFI F-150 has been running for 10 hours. The key in the ignition rotates positions, but to no avail. I can't shut the dadgum truck off. Any suggestions?
A couple of things to try. You can pull fuses (to the fuel pumps, ignition, etc), or block the air to the engine. Open the air filter box and use a large towl (one that won't get sucked inside) to block the air. Should die real quick. After it dies make sure the power if off by disconnecting the battery if needed.
That sucks man. I dont think you have a 5.0 l in your 2000 F-150 unless you put it there though. It either came with the 4.6l or the 5.4l. That dosnt make any difference on your problem but i thought i might just clairify.
In the Valentine's Day spirit, (heads-up, gentlemen), bless your pea-pickin', generous heart! I'd actually had a mechanical friend suggest blocking off the air-intake, (with my hand), around 9 hours ago, but it sounded too abstract. Color me yellow, and call me a chicken, but I was afraid to try it. Your version sounds like something I can handle. I suggested to the same fellow, that I might pull some fuses, and he concurred with the idea. I was fearful of randomly pulling the wrong fuses, potentially botching some system, so I chickened out of that solution, as well.
No kidding, I was just heading out the door to park outside my mechanic's gate till he opened up shop, when I decided to first check email . You really helped me out by giving me concrete suggestions. Have a great day, and thanks for your time.

You are so right. It's a 1990 F-150. What was I thinking? I plead equal parts ignorance and sleep deprivation. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
wouldnt disconnetcing the battery work a lot easier?? and if its efi, couldnt you just disconnect the wires attached to the maf? or maybe its too early a model to have that.. not too familiar with the engine, but i know my 4.6 wont start (or stay running) if the maf wires are disconnected
Disconnecting the battery won't work because the alternator would supply the voltage. That's a good idea about the MAF but we don't know if she would have been comfortable doing it.

Sorry for the trouble your having. Sounds like your headed in the right direction. Let us all know how you made out with the trouble.
Aw, shucks. As I frequently point out, "I have other, STERLING qualities."
My mechanic informed me that I don't even have a 5.0 engine. Mine is a 4.9 inline six. Here I thought I had a V-8, was running with the "big Dogs." He informed me that was not the case, and my 1990 4.9 F150 was just a puppy left behind in the pen. No wonder it wimps out when trailering a tractor, or hauling livestock.
I drove to his place around 7:30 A.M., after letting the beast run all night. He opened the hood, and popped something off of the coil. Later, after driving me home, he determined the problem concerned a rod, and ordered the part.
I can't begin to sound intelligent about this. As for me, I started reading the Repair Manual for my model, until my eyes began to glaze over. The concept of female domestication began to appear less restrictive, and more appealing, so I baked a batch of chocolate chip cookies to fortify my self-image.
"That's a good idea about the MAF but we don't know if she would have been comfortable doing it."
LOL That's the understatement of the year! MAF? Merde. ROFL
The problem is history, and I've had a reality check.
