got a 97 f150 4x4 4.6 automatic, 88k miles. just bought it, and i am having some heating issues. when i turn the heat **** to full, it actually blows cold air. i removed the **** thinking it might be cracked, and all is fine. also the upper hose, is not hot at all, even after the truck running for a good 15-20 minutes, and the heater core hoses are warm, but not hot. im leaning towards t-stat, but wanted to pick your brains. is the t-stat a hard change?> im assuming no, since ive done it before on other vehicles.
Welcome to the forum.
The thermostat is on to and easy to access.
I am wondering if you actually have a temperature blend door problem in the ductwork. I have read of these breaking. Does the temp gauge go about 1/2 way up after running for a bit?
yes it does, them engine warms up to normal operating temp. but im also wondering why the upper hose does not get hot, and the heater core hoses arent hot, they are warm
air in the system could explain the cold upper hose. But you shouldnt have air in there all of the sudden. If you just had a flush or changed the coolant you should take off the reservoir cap and run the engine til hot, it will self bleed. If you dont think that is a problem at all then look to the blend door or the blend door motors that change the position of the door. Its pretty much an R-R the ENTIRE dash job, so get some good info before you go digging in.
