My cruise control on my 96 does not work. I checked the fuses, unless I missed one that is not it. Does anyone have any ideas what I should check next. Does anyone now how to trouble shoot cruise control? I do not use cruise control much but would like to fix it. I dont know about you guys but every ford I have owned the cruise control has quit working. My 90 f150 my 94 f250 and my 98 f150 two wheel drive company truck all have non working cruise control.
If this pedal switch is bad would that cause the cruise control to not turn on. I hit the switch on my wheel and the cruise light on my dash does not light up and the cruise does not work.
Are any other things not working on your bronco? I know you said that you checked the fuses, but on my Bronco the horn, cruise, and ciggarette lighter are all on the same fuse. So if any of those other things are not working I would check the fuses again. Sorry if this doesn't help.
Yes, if the pedal switch is bad it should keep the cruise from working. The pedal switch is your "fail-safe" If it isn't working there would be no immediate shut down of the cruise under emergency braking operations.

That's correct.
As explained before the Horn system is part of the cruise wiring.
You can check for continuity in the cruise buttons first.
You do need to check the switch I mentioned earlier.
There are TWO, so make sure you test them both.
One for the Brake lights & one for the cruise shut off.

There is also a mercury switch on the end of the master cylinder that can, and does go bad. Take a quick look and if its leaking, chances are very good that is bad. I ran all the other checks, and this was the culprit on mine. The Ford dealer told me they do tend to just wear out over time, most commonly identified by leaking.
Is there supposed to be a light for the cruise on the dash of a 1990? My cruise works pretty good, although it has a hard time holding speeds uphill. But there is no light on the dash. BTW - since I'm here, is there any sort of adjustment to make the cruise hold speeds uphill better?
I don't have a cruise light either, unless it's burnt out. As for adjusting the cruise, there isn't any adjustment that I know of. I will take a look though.
Cool. It's like it gradually drops speed when going up hills or long inclines, and it seems that if it drops 10mph then it turns off. I would think there would be some way to make it hold better.
There is no light that I am aware of and I have had mine since it was a baby of one and a half years. Mine also dropped but I found a few vacuum leaks and this pretty much corrected the problems that I was having. Of course, with a 302, it doesn't seem to like hills that much anyway unless I am over 70. I usually cruise at 75 or 76 with not too much problem.
I have to check the vacuum lines one of these days anyway - my ac vents go to defrost under hard acceleration. It's not usually a problem, in summer I just cable tie the valve open so the dash vents work all the time, in winter I cut the cable tie so I can use the defroster when needed. But one day I will be bored and decide to look at my vacuum lines, maybe the two problems will related.
Thanks guys. I now see that there is not a indicator light for cruise although mine still does not work I think I have some good ideas where to start. Thanks.
Mine doesn't work either. There are 2 wires coming from the brake pedal, and they seem to connect to each other. How do you check them, or am i looking in the wrong place. They don't look like switches, just wire connectors connecting to the brake pedal.
