what do you mean he KEPT busting the shafts, how many did he break, im running reo's and i thought that eliminated axle breakage, im going to be running 53" v-treads, i know lots of guys with this setup that dont break, i guess rocks are knarlier than i thought
stock shafts, not CroMo!
rocks a LOOOOT less forgiving than mud! thats why lift kits come the way they do, with hardly any flex and lift blocks or AAL's. they have built these kits to serve the muddin style trucks. if they designed the kits with ppl going to play on rocks in mind they have bolt on 4 link kits off the shelf with coilovers!
ACTUALLY, west coast wheelers have it easy! all they have is dry rock, east coast wheeling is a WHOLE different animal! i cant count how many rock 'crawling' trails consist of going straight up in a water fall (some still flowing very well!). we have the added challenge of constant mud and water on the rocks creating a pretty slippery situation. the problem comes when you get your tires spinning good to get traction and all of a sudden a tire finds a dry spot and it suddenly catches! thats wher most u-joints and shafts break.... that and getting frustrated and just hitting the obstacle with a lot of force (which is needed more often than not) getting some air and coming down hard with the tires still spinning 40-50 mph!
