It was close to the end of his shift I am sure. It was the right time of the day for their shift change. If it was earlier in the day I would not have been so heavy. It was also the end of the month so quota time was on his list.
It is not illegal to run bio or veg on the road. But you do need to make sure you pay tax. I know some states give a "so many miles per quarter" thing that will save on tax? my state said $2000 bond then report every thing i make to run on road. So i just keep my recpts, for any fuel i buy, and tax i pay. how long does the red stay in the tank?
My big question is how are they gonna tell the bio in your tank is home-brewed instead of commercially bought? The commercial stuff doesn't have any kind of taggant or coloring added to it as far as I can tell....

Yes i agree, and if you make fuel additive that has no tax on it, and the stuff you buy for cutting grass, power washing, wifes car and boat has road tax!
What kills me is the government gets almost 60 cents per gallon of fuel in taxes, while the oil companies get an average of 9 cents per gallon profit, and Congress rails on about the oil company's "price gouging".

That is the main reason i don't shop at chain stores, i've got a local guy (not from another country) that i buy my fuel from. he may be 2 cents more but he only makes 3 cents a gallon and i rather he get it than a big chain!!!

Well, You do have 535 law makers who need to live like oil tycoons so they do need the bigger share.
purely hypathetical-an ole boy has a farm and a truck with two tanks, one with hwy and one with off-road fuel. if he pauses to switch tanks each time he leaves/enters a paved road would/could he be in trouble? seems realistic, how many of us have driven down a rural road or construction site with fuel we've paid tax on?
i've never seen off-hwy gasoline.
wonder how many people tried to beat the hwy tax on propane on the lp vehicles?does it have a different smell to it?
I have been asking around and no one in NY I talked to has been stopped for fuel dipping unless your 18,000+ and bigger. Must be we have more crack and heroin dealers here to keep the police busy. LOL!
It's funny that you mentioned dipping fuel tanks! I was dipped yesterday afternoon by Mississippi Dept. of Transportation with assistance provided by the Highway Patrol. I carry 105 gallons of off-road diesel in my L-shaped service tank in the bed. Guess where they wanted to pull the sample from ? They were tipped off by service stations that do not carry the non-taxable fuel. They then proceeded to sample my two saddle tanks, to no avail! I was detained in the DOT vehicle while my fuel filter was removed to provide a sample. They did not find any off road fuel in my system. I had already explained that the fuel in the L tank was for my agricultural equipment and home generator. During the clean up of hurricane Katrina every one had turned a blind eye to the use of off road diesel because good clean taxable fuel was hard to come by and was very expensive. We were allowed to use off road diesel as long as our vehicle usage was associated with debris removal and not personal use. Taxable fuel averaged 2.75/gal vice 1.05 for off road fuel. I have used the "forbidden fuel" for a long time, till the service stations started to complain about the lost revenue.

The fuel return switched with the source. Right after switching from off-road to hwy tank, a bit of off-road fuel would be returned into the hwy fuel tank. As described earlier, it doesn't take much off-road dye to taint an entire tank.

i appreciate your point, i just meant that he's doing it with good intentions and doesn't deserve a thump on the nuts. now about the smell of that propane.....................
Around So. Arkansas anything that clatters and blows black smoke is subject to being dipped. My service truck has been dipped several times and even the Ol Lady's Mercedes diesel has been. I have a customer who pours his used oil in the fuel tank, they even gave him grief because the fuel was black instead of clear.
What really sucks is pump price for diesel is equal if not more than Super Unleaded here in NY. Not that I can't afford it but why does it cost more to produce? I realize that at least half of the cost is tax.
i'm sure the high tax is really aimed at the bigger trucks that they blame for tearing up the roads; ya'll are just cathing the end result of having a diesel also-seems almost like a sin tax.
here in Texas it's alot higher than super unld.
