Normally I would pick-up second gear at about 15mph.
Well - My engine has to race upwards of 2500 rpms before I catch second...
by then im doing 25-30+ mph.
What can I do to correct....
Change the filter/fluid?
Other sensor gone bad....
adjust the cable?
Need help.... can't afford replace/rebuild at the time.
My Wife's brand X is doing the same thing. The consensus I get is that the shifting actuator is sticking. And that an oil change may cure it. Be sure ta drop the pan and change the filter.
Before you just go and change the fluid you might want to consider how many miles is on the truck and if the fluid has ever been changed before.. if there is to many miles on it all changing the fluid is going to do for you is make it worse. new fluid will make the seals soft again and if its been to long without a change then it will cause slippage.

I have rebuilt several hundred C6, C4, TH350/400. 727's and so on. I politely disagree with you. If the tranny is already slipping than yes. but in this case we have a sticking Modulator or shifting actuator. That fresh fluid could unstick.
The sticking Modulator and or shifting actuator are internal parts... I assume?
Or can they be changed out externally? When I change the fluid - do you recommend.... any additives or procedures?
I have never been into an E4OD. As I retired about that time. Basically it replaces the vacuum modulator. There should be two connectors on the tranny. One close to the shifting arm should be back up lights. The other is what you are looking for. It will have a electrical wires and or a cable. Wire could be broke or cable damaged from snow or off roading. On my GM it is high on the pass side and will have to remove fan and dizzy cap and cross member to get enough clearance to get it out if the fluid and filter doesnt work.
Boonie, did you come up with a solution to this problem yet? My 97 PSD, EOD4, with only 82k is doing the same thing. I have changed the filter and fluid every 20k and just did it about 750 miles ago. I'm going to try the selector switch on the side of the tranny at the shift linkage. I had the same problem a few years ago and I cleaned the switch unit as best I could and it ran fine until recently. I'm hoping that is the problem. I can not get the thing to code on my scanner. If you have come up with other possibilities, let me know.
I haven't been able to do anything for over week, weather and work.
I plan to do stop something this weekend. Your feedback brings new possibilities, anything short of a new/rebuilt tranny is more than worth checking into. I've seen the switch on the driver side of the tranny, have you ever considered replacing it? Is it difficult to remove and clean, does it leak once removed? How did you clean it, anything special or a simple cleaning will do it.
Pls let me know results of your next cleaning or replacement? I'll do the same.
Boonie, I have done 2 things that have improved the shifting, but not really cured it. I had to replace the CPS and I pulled the fuse on the power trans system to reset the shift points back to default. Now it shift ok unless I put my foot into it. Still awaiting a new switch, but probably will have to take it to a tranny shop.
