Unhappy E4OD delay catching second gear

Normally I would pick-up second gear at about 15mph.
Well - My engine has to race upwards of 2500 rpms before I catch second...
by then im doing 25-30+ mph.

What can I do to correct....

Change the filter/fluid?
Other sensor gone bad....
adjust the cable?

Need help.... can't afford replace/rebuild at the time.

Thanks.

Sorry to ask the obvious but have you checked the fluid level.

There is no modulator on an E4OD.

I agree with the fluid. If it's low or burnt it can do this.

I was told that the shifting actuator is sticking and a fluid and filter chance can cure it
