Tranny delay from stop

Hello,
I am having a problem with my 2002 5.4 E250. There's a delay in the tranny shifting into first gear when accelerating from a stop and when coming out of park. It is now to the point where it requires revving the engine until the tranny will kick in. I do not have a tach, but it seems like I have to rev the engine to around 2500-3000 rpm. It will eventually catch first gear as the rpm's drop. When it finnaly catches first gear, it does not slip in, but more like abruptly kicks in. I noticed that if I drive slow in first or up to second gear, and then come to a stop, I will be able to take off fine, but if I go faster and reach 3rd gear, when i come to a stop and try to take off again, I will have to again rev the engine until it catches and kicks in. So basically if I drive around without hitting 3rd gear, and without shifting to park, everything is fine. I hope I explained this accurately.
Has anyone experienced this before or have any suggestions?
Could it be a solenoid problem?

Thanks.

It is almost certainly a worn out seal in the forward clutch. The trans has to come out and be disassembled to fix it. There is no way that it is anything electrical.

Fluid is nice and pink and on level.
Is this a classic symptom of a worn out seal? Why do you think that is the problem?
Thanks

Because that's how they act when the forward clutch seals don't do what they should.

Total rebuild or replaceable component?

If total rebuild, i may have to take some time and get up the funds.
What's the future like driving it as is?
Will it just continue as is? Can I get a few months out of it or is it just going to fail completely soon?
Thanks

There is no reason to only fix one clutch when it's all apart. It costs very little more to do that whole trans.

It may go several months or it might completely quit today. There is no way to tell.
