My truck wont move if i just get in and put it into drive. If i push on the gas the tires will just spin and it wont move. If a back up a few feet and then put it into dirve there aren't any problems although sometimes i will have to try backing up a few times before it will go.
Hi, Sounds like you have a brake or bearing problem. More likly a brake hanging up tho. I would jack the front up and try to turn the wheels, it might just be one side. Erv

I would take bets that your parking brake is locking your rear wheels up.
If one side is locked up and the other isn't what's going to happen to a open diff rear end -
Answer - the unlocked wheel will spin while at the same time you won't move.
Being that he said backing up will fix the problem and The fact that I have had this problem with may of my customers trucks and my own in the past points to a parking brake issue. I agree that it may not be the problem however it gives him somewhere else to look. When I have a problem any and all advice is taken ; sometimes the advice may seem off the wall - until that ends up being what was wrong.
Not only could the parking brake be at fault, but one of the the self adjusters...which only adjusts the brakes when backing up (when working properly), may have backed out all the way and locked one wheel.
There is another item no on ehas mentioned: Proportioning valve. I know that when I did the front brakes on my F-100, I did not know at first that you had to bleed the calipers and hold the little valve thing on the prop valve when you did it. If it sticks (and I know this from personal experience) it will lock BOTH front calipers down and will make you truck great for burnout competitions.
I would suggest what someone else posted and lift the front tires and see if they move. If the don't search the archives here for how to reset the prop valve.

it could also be possible the lining is or has separated, and binds up going forward, but will move out of place when backing, had that happen on my trailer.
I have had this same problem many times when the parking brake has been applied with wet brake drums. The brake shoes rust to the drums and the vehicle will not move. In wet weather I no longer apply the parking brake.
