so yesterday I went out to my 1996 f250 7.3 and I went to leave and the rpms went up but the truck didn't move. I thought I accidently put it into neutral but it was in drive. I put it in reverse and backed it up it made a loud bang then I out it back in drive and I was able to go. it also did the same thing this morning. could it just be the fact its been in the single digits the past few days or do I got a problem?
sounds like the MLPS may be suspect Wally.careful because the BANG as it finds a gear again isn't any good for it.
your connection may be getting dirty from road slush.pull it off and have a look to see if it's still sealed up.
large sensor located on the drivers side, behind the shift linkage.if you can't get to this for a bit,but still need to truck, use caution.be prepared for the trans to go into N on you going down the road.quickly shift into N and roll to a stop so you don't get the BANG back into gear, shift back to D once fully stopped and take off easy again (may or may not engage promptly.baby it.)
