OK, My truck is running a little rough. I can tell its running rough at pretty much any RPM. Its not a pattern at all. Very random. I'm not getting an SES light. Its been doing it for a while. Several oil changes and fuel filter changes. My truck works pretty hard pulling my equipment trailer to and from jobs daily, its about 7500#s. Trucks got about 175,000 miles on it now. Any ideas?
Hmm. Have you checked the oil level, and condition? How many miles are on the oil? How are the rest of the fluids, always check those two first.
Just because you haven't set a SES light, doesn't mean you aren't getting any stored codes. Find a buddy who is a mechanic who has a scanner, to scan codes, or go to AutoZone and have them do it. They might not pick up on all the Diesel-specific codes.
You say rough running, does it feel like one or more cylinders are missing, like you are sputtering/running out of fuel sensation, or just smooth running but very weak?
I guess its like a missing sensation. But not on every revolution. As I said I've changed my oil and oil filter and fuel filter several times over the past few months and no change if oil is old or new. I'll check the valve covers. Do I need to pull the cover off to check or just be sure its pluged in good?
I also have been averaging around 12.5 MPG. Granted I pull trailers most of the time in stop and go driving. It really hasn't changed in a couple of years and 50,000 miles. But the miss may have been there for a while just not as noticable. It seems to have plenty of power, but I may have droped off some gradually and not noticed it.
