Help w/codes
Ok, originally I posted about a problem that was a rough idle with a 95 5.8 auto Bronco with EEC-IV. I recently purchased a code reader and I now have codes that may help. Here they are:
213 = SPOUT circuit open
311 = Thermactor air system/fault during engine run self-test
536 = Brake On/Off (BOO) circuit not activated during KOER
538 = Insufficient RPM change during KOER Dynamic Response Test
632 = Overdrive Transmission Cancel Switch/no action during self engine run test
This was the original posting: "I just replaced the last two remaining spark plugs (#3 & #4) on my 5.8L 1995 Bronco. Prior to replacing these two spark plugs, the engine ran well. After I repplaced the spark plugs, the engine ran rough. I re-checked the seat and the gap and nothing was amiss. I have double checked the sequence of the firing order and all is good. I also replaced the spark plug wires."

The last 3 codes are due to not performing those tasks during the KOER test don't worry about 'em. The 311 could be difficult to locate, it means you have a prolem in your air pump system. I don't remember if you said that you removed your pump or not. I think the 213 is your problem. Your timings being affected by something. IM kemicalburns and get his opinion, I'm not as familiar with your year model and engine.

I did get 126 once which was MAP pressure either over or under, but I don't get that code anymore. However, the MAP would explain alot if that was the case.
I also get code 624 = Electronic Pressure Control solenoid circuit fault.
My Air pump is still connected but the pipe that ran from the exhaust back up to the pump was rusted out, so that part was plugged.

I'll see if I can find out what the 624 is and post you tomorrow on it, the 126 could cause a rough or erratic idle, but it could also be there because of rough or erratic idle. The more I think of the different codes here I think you should check for vacuum leaks. I'd start where the pipe was rusted out. Use something that will burn in the cylinders but not on the manifolds or headers. If you spray somewhere and it causes the engine rpm to rise you have a leak in that vicinity. vac leaks will cause this problem. I don't think it's a vac hose off but after you check the thermactor system check the intake manifold upper and lower. I'll get back to ya.
OK, This whole problem started when I replaced #3 and #4 spark plugs. I noticed that there was this cannister with a 1" inch hose that run from the top, plus a 1" hose that runs from one side going towards the rear of the engine compartment, and a 1" hose that runs in the opposite direction going foward in the engine compartment. These hoses all meet at the air pump. There was a vacuum hose that ran into the base of this cannister. It had rusted out. I plugged the vacuum hose since the cannister was shot. I will go get some something to spray around the cannister to see if it is still operative. I just don't know what to call the cannister.
I think we're talkin about the charcoal cannister but I'm not certain. The only thing I can find on the code 624 is that it's a transmission fault code (not relavent to the idle). I know that you've probably checked it several times before already but, pull the wires off of #3 and #4 and check those wires to make sure that the ends aren't partially seperated from the wire or broken and that they're seated completely when reinstalled. I think the 311 is a result of the air system not working cause of the rusted pipe, but I don't see where that could cause the idle problem unless there was a vacuum leak there. something else, hows it running above idle? Is it missing or skipping while driving?
