I've been asked to consider swapping a manual 5 speed into a truck with an automatic. They are the same year (88) and they have the same engine. Neither are 4WD.
I think it would be pretty straight forward, although the clutch pedal would have to be installed. Does anyone know if the whole pedal assembly would have to be swapped, or just remove the clutch pedal/master cylinder/reservoir from the m/t truck and install on the a/t truck?
Is it likely that the rear end ratio is different between the two?
I believe the entire pedal asm would need to be swapped, as the brake pedals are different also. You also need to open up the shifter hole in the pan & carpet/mat, which should be pretty easy. You can check axle ratios by looking at the axle code on the door sticker or the tag on the axle. Even if the driveshafts are different, you can easily switch them too, since you have both vehicles.
