Since the inception of myself, as a young toddler, and especially during the formative pre-adolescent years, my Grandpa hammered into my head to NEVER buy a Chevy. It simply was not an option. Before I leased a little Ranger a few years ago, I did some research on Carpoint.com. The S-10 was a slightly better value in the final analysis. This didn’t matter. My Grandpa, for two decades reminded me, and my Dad even longer, to never buy a GM product. That’s why I have a Ford.
i've always loved the truck i have now since i was a toddler and young kid. that's the only reason why my dad kept it for an extra 10 years, was to give it to me. it was the best car/truck he'd even owned!
I have to admit straying from the Blue Oval from time to time in my early years. Since my father passed away in 1980 I have not bought anything other than a Ford. He had been a salesman and part owner of a Ford dealership and sold Fords until the day he died. I guess it's just a tribute to him. I wouldn't feel comfortable in anything LESS!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Apr-02 AT 09:49 AM (EST)]i drive a Ford because its different, every one has chevys, all of my friends and everything, so i opted to a modified Ford. also all the stock drive train is a lot stronger in a Ford than it is in a Chevy and i like the Ford body styles a whole lot better, except for the new F-150s, those things look like a full size taurus with a bed on it to me. that and our family business has used Ford since 1925
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Apr-02 AT 12:50 PM (EST)]I'm only 19, but have always loved Fords. I didn't get it from my parents, either. In fact, I converted them! When I was born in 82, my parents had an 82 Escort wagon. It turned out to be a lemon, so my parents hated Ford. :-X23 Some how, though, I think this car was what made me a Ford man. As I grew older, I grew to like Fords more and researched them. I finally convinced my father to buy a Ford after the engine in his 91 Subaru burned out at 81,000 miles. He got a 92 Explorer which he later sold to me. My sister bought a 96 Contour, then a 98 Contour and my brother-in-law has a 97 Ranger. More recently, my mother bought a 99 Mercury Mystique and my father got a 2000 Explorer. All proud Ford owners thanks to me (except my sister, she went to a bad dealer but her car has been basically good, that's just her way).
It's interesting, my maternal grandparent always bought GMs. My grandfather owned stock in them and thought Fords were junk (this is what my mother grew up with) :-X23 . My paternal grandparent, though, mostly bought Fords and had good luck with them. I'm not sure why that didn't carry over to my father. My grandfather's last car was an 86 Mercury Grand Marquis. That car rode so soomth and the engine was so powerful. My grandfather died in 95 and I wanted this for my first car. However, I wasn't 16 yet and my parents didn't want to have an extra car around for a couple years. So we sold it.
I drive my '70 Mustang daily. I bought the car off my brother, who got it from my aunt who owned it since about 1980. That car made me fall in love with the early Mustangs. I have Ford trucks because we had an old '46 sitting in the back yard, had it been a Chevy, I may be more into Chevy's. I have owned GM products (an '83 Trans Am, '68 Olds Cutlass Supreme 2dr hardtop, and '72 Olds Vista Cruiser) and have not had any complaints about any of them. I'm gonna get my fiance a truck soon, and it's probably going to be a Ranger, in a year or 2 I'm going to buy myself a new car, probably a new Mustang convertible GT.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Apr-02 AT 01:22 PM (EST)]Frankly,
GM used an idea of mine(convenience option)) that I sent in
to the company in 1967,that hey never wrote and thanked me for.It was an *under the hood light* and "in the trunk" light.
But, mostly it was because I was REALLY Po'd in always breaking down while I was dressed up on a Friday or Saturday becuase of the starter solenoid being mounted on top of the starter. I had wrecked Many clothes fixing "The Heart Attack of America".
4 GM's in a row was enough.
The family's old 53 Mercury was as tough as nails.
The old Pontiac,Oldsmobubble were awful.
My Dad had company cars from the time that I knew until
1983. Fleet cars were always in the repair shop.
The year they bought Ford's again was 1972 > what a difference.
Yes, Every comapny has had their high point and their low point.
Now, I just prefer to actually get to where I intend on going.
Like many others in this site, I liked Fords because that's what my Dad bought and my older brother had a Ranger. When it came time to but my first truck, the style and value of the Ranger won me over and its quality and wonderful reliability sealed the deal.
I grew up with Fords and Chevy's as family cars. The Fords were always much better vehicles, and the Chevy's were always burning up and falling apart.
I have to admit I personally have owned 2 Chevy's as well, and have had nothing but problems with them, to me they were both lemons. My Fords have outlasted others in quality, performance and reliability.
To me there is no other option! I love my Fords!
Right Now I drive a 98 Ranger, the last truck I drove was 94 Ranger. The reason for this is simple. The FORD Ranger seats fit my BUTT plane and simple. Ford Ranger seats are the most comfortable on the market before I bought my 98 I test drove the F150, Cheby, Nissan, Toyotta, Dogde, Ford won !!

To be honest I have had a Mazda truck and a Chevy truck. The Mazda lasted for 200,000 + miles. My grandfather swore by Fords. I heard they had the best trucks so I gave it a try. So far I love it.
My family has owned blue oval since the 50s started by my grandfather. He would only buy a ford, he has never owned anything else. He is going to buy a new f-150 pretty soon too, hopefully he'll let me drive it My uncle's and father only buy ford. My dad has been a trader from time to time. He wants a chevy back, i don't know why. My family owns all the cars/trucks listed below, and we've had almost no problems with any of them. The 1980 van runs like new and it has less rust/rot then our 88, but the 88 sees a lot of salt. I, not only like fords because of there looks and style but because my family has owned them for over 50 years. I don't mind chevy, i think they make good stuff. I just prefer ford because of there style and they do have good quality stuff. I don't think it is easy to say, oh a chevy engine went out at 90k mi so chevy stinks, you could say the same about Ford. I just like ford better.
