Bought my first Ford (Excursion) three months ago to tow my travel trailer. The CR-V wasn't quite up to the task, lol. I was quite nervous purchasing a five year old truck with nearly 100,000 miles on it, but after 1500 miles of towing 8500 lbs, the truck has impressed me a lot. Add the versitility of it when unhitched and I am extremely happy with my Ford.
I remember when I was 3 or 4 and my uncle coming out to my house with his '63 Ford. It was the most awesome thing in the world. Tilt hood, 36" goodyears, and it looked like a Christmas tree in the dark. From that day forward, I've been hooked. I just think that too many people are on the Chevy bandwagon. I do it to be a little different.
Well, I'm on my 4th Ford, and everytime I've bought one it was because it was cheaper than most others... However, that doesn't mean I don't like them. I've been very happy with all 4, and never regretted buying any of them... I've got nothing against any of the big 3, and would easily consider owning any of them. I currently have 2 Fords and a '67 Plymouth. I was hoping to get an old Chevy/GMC truck or El Camino/Sprint, so I could say I had one of each of the big 3...
I've had/have:
'92 302 auto, 2wd, reg cab, flareside (wanted a mid 90's Chevy/GMC SWB)
'03 4.6L auto, 2wd, reg cab, flareside (wanted a comparable GMC)
'04 Mustang GT Premium, 5-spd (still have. Wanted a new Z28, but they quit making them)
'75 F100, auto, 2wd, reg cab, SWB (Still have, but want a 67-72 Chevy/GMC instead)
We sorta fell into it...I was 15 in the year 2000 when we bought a '67 Mustang Convertible to restore. From then on, I've driven Fords simply because I know them better and hence feel more comfortable with them. I love GM's, MoPars, heck I even like Hudsons, and some Studebakers and AMC's, for instance. To me, it's not the make, it's the model and year it was built.
Many reasons.
Firstly, I own a machine shop, and work with metal every day.
I buy Ford because I believe the engines to be better and the overall engineering of the car to be superior. I also feel that quality control is nearly at Japanese levels.
I find their trucks to be the best available anywhere at any price.
Yes, I've owned GM, and still do. They're ok, and will do in a pinch, but I've really been spoiled with Fords.
I have an 01 Ranger that has 80k on it, and never, ever gave any trouble.
I have a 72 L-700 flatbed that finally let loose with a blown head gasket, after 330,000 very hard miles, 300k of which were riddled with both abuse and neglect (this was because I bought it with 300k already on it - the OTHER guy was the one that beat her).
My 67 Thunderbird's 390 is silky smooth.
It goes on and on..
I wouldn't turn my nose up at other brands, but for me and my money, Ford is the winner hands down.
oh, yeah. I also like going against the tide of all the 350 powered Chevy Novas I read about in car magazines in the 80s when I was a teen.
Why I drive a Ford? Well its sure not because I want to be like everyone else. I always catch junk from the GM crowd mostly, the Mopars guys around here seem to dislike a Chevy worse than a Ford also so actually we both catch it from the GM guys. Also everytime I go to a car show its nice to actually drive my Ford so I can park amist the 100's of camaro's and vettes that always appear , that usually tell you that you just dont see many of "their" cars around anymore, and then you turn around and see 20 more with the same paint job. As far as Ford trucks, Ive worked on all of them and I seem to have to do the most major work on the older chevy's. Heck I even like AMC's over anything GM has come up with. Then again AMC's are kinda cool
I own ford trucks for a BIG reason. they're THE TOUGHEST things I can find short of an HMMWV to do my bidding. I've had bad experiences with GM vehicles, same with dodge, so I'm stayin with something that has proven its reliablity to me time and again. besides, these trucks are the least expensive for me to work on, and I dont feel I need a degree in auto engineering to work on.
my first ford was my 72 f100 custom.it had a fe 390 a tunnel ram with dual 4's,2 1/2 " dual exhaust, crane cam,a detroit locker in the 9" rear diff,it was a 3 speed standard,i converted to a floor shift.that truck was way to fast for a barely 17 year old kid!!! i loved it,but had to sell it to make room for my wifes new datsun 510 station wagon.i then had a toyota truck,i put a 302 ford in,a 9" diff with dually rear wheels,it was great running cause of the ford running gear.then that brings me to the 2 fords i now own,my 74 4x4 dually, with the 428 SCJ an all the various modifications, and my 79 2wd,f100 short box, rollerized 302,(the engine is built to 302 boss specs)c4 auto, with stag 2 shift kit,3800 torque converter,ac cobra headers an exhaust, limited slip rear diff.and lakewood traction bars.i grew up around all types of vehicles, but the best were always the fords.i would have a hard time drivin a truck if it was not a ford.in my line of work,(ironworker) you only see ford trucks used as work trucks, they are just tougher than the rest. iwork on a lot of racecars at home and the fords cost more to build, but they are stronger, longer.-billy
This will be a long post! I would like to start off sounding noble, my middle name is clif-FORD, I was born in Dearborn Michigan. My first ride was a 62 Mercury Comet with a am radio and about 10 speakers! Second was a 69 Mercury Marquis. I have owned every years of Mustang from 66-78 at one time or another.
Then I went Mopar for years, then to Chevy. I have the 88 F-150 4X4 right now as I drive a truck for a living and had bought a really clean 4X4 Chevy shortbed and two weeks later the flywheel broke off the crank. I came in on a weekend and took the truck back and demanded something else and all he had that compared to the price and need I had for a truck was the Ford.
I am very happy with this truck and it has sat since July before being started and it started right up the other day within 30 seconds. I even posted that in the the 87-96 thread. Great truck and I really dont drive it enough to trade it in and get payments on something else.
i want to, you know, actually GET to where im going lol
the first car i ever wanted was my aunts 89 probe. i only originally watned it cuz it was red, it was a two door, and it had those nifty flip up headlights (when you're 5 years old, that stuff is awe inspiring) and cuz i was also a product of the year 1989
ever since then ive watned fords, though i changed my interests to mustangs not long after the probe attraction and ive been hooked on em ever since. just bought my 76 cobra II last may (which no one but i payed for, to get back at all the kids in my school who got a new car from mommy and daddy). but its not just 'stangs. i love the F series and the ranger (and heck, even its mazda twin... but then again, im born into a mazda family.. lol)
well........... i'm 25 years old and have had 20+ vehicles yes 20+ ford,chevy trucks and cars.i started at 15 with a 1976 chebby stepside 327.traded that for a 1982 v-6 camaro had a blown motor.......lol.
then i was introduced to the ford world.......mustangs,f150's,f250's.....i was hooked.even in between some of my fords i purchased a couple midsize chebbys...mainly s10's for a good price and gas milage.
to sum this up out of all the fords i have owned from mustangs to rangers to fullsize 73-79 up to 2000 superduty, they have all been very low maintence, for the most part bullet proof.for myself and alot of my buddys who still own alot of chebbys.......i usually get a phone call to run them to the parts store............you know what i pick them up in???????? i'll let you figure it out!! (BUILT FORD TOUGH)
