1992 E250 Econoline rough cold start

Hi, I have 1992 E250 Econoline and I have a hard time starting the engine, it coughs, rough idling, black smoke and after it start ruining I let it run for a time to get it warm and it runs great after. Any ideas???

Yeah, it's cold.... The cold does a lot of funny things to the sensors. Even in open loop if the computer detects a severe cold condition it will go full rich and do what you are describing. My '91 merc grand marquis does this very same thing. When I get a chance after it gets warm it's getting a new tps, map, evp, iac, the egr will be cleaned, the throttle body will be cleaned, probably a new temperature sender (both for the gauge and for the comptuer), and new o2 sensor(s). This is pretty much all the sensors that can effect the cold idle. If the EGR is sticking then it will cause a bad cold idle and a hard start.
