The major difference is that the 4R100 has more torque capacity. The 4R100 has 1000 lb-ft maximum, after the torque converter multiplication, while the 4R70W has 700 lb-ft capacity, also after the torque converter multiplication.
The 4R100 is physically larger, and the two transmissions don't share any parts.
Depending on year and engine, the F150 could have either.
