Transmission and Transfer Case

What are the intervals for tranny and transfer case fluid changes? Also, how can I tell what kind of transmission do I have? I believe its either a 4r100 or a 4r70w...

I'm pretty sure it calls for a tranny fluid change at 30,000 & 60,000.

Tranny is a 4r75e

Not quite, guys!

As per the Ford scheduled maintenance guide, you don't have to change the fluid until 150,000 miles! Every 30,000 is ONLY for the SuperDuty TorqShift.

BUT....

If you use your vehicle "primarily" to tow with, they say change it every 30k.

In my opinion, if you wait that long, you're NUTS...most of us like to do it every 50 or 60k miles. Every 30K isn't necessary unless you do frequent towing of heavy things.

I run AMSOIL in everything I own. The 100% SYNTHETIC ATF is good for 100,000 miles as well as the full synthetic TORQUE SHIFT ATF that goes in the transfer case. Along with the long intrevals, you will also get a tranny that runs cooler. Its more expensive, just like the oil; But when you add it up, in the long run its cheaper and much better protection.
I was also informed that they no longer put paper filters in the trans. pan, so there is no need to drop the pan. Instead there is just a metal screen. I took mine to a local shop, along with 16 qts. of AMSOIL. They drained and cleaned their machine, and then backflushed the tranny system; That way you get every drop of oil out including the lines and torque converter, where otherwise you would not be able to drain. With your own oil it only cost about $30.00 in labor.
