Question Will a 4R70W trans work with a 73 302?

Hey yall I may be having to get a new trans and I was wondering if a 4R70W out of a '93 up lincon would work in my '73 F100 with a 302? Or what would be the best upgrade for the stock C4? I just want something with a little better take off and that gets better gas millage. Any advice is welcome. Thanks yall.

If the donor car had a 5.0L, then yes, but you'll have to do some tweaking with the electronics for it to work. Stand-alone controller and a throttle position sensor are at least two of the things you'll need. Then there's the driveshaft having the right splines as the tranny, the transmission being the right length, probably some other things I can't think of. But yeah, it'll work.

trans is something like 7/8" longer than the original, and the best controller that is affordable is the Baumann Electronics (becontrols.com) for around $425.

for the motor, I think you need one from a 3.8L mustang, around 96 or so.

It is. And I think '93 Town Cars had the 4.6L.

IMO it's cheaper and easier to swap to a 5-speed manual.

Swap to a 5 sp or get a overdrive tranny from a older grand marquis or crown vic with the 5.0. I had those aod trannys in a couple of my 5.0 swapped rangers and they did good on fuel idk how well it would do in a bigger truck tho.
