A ford dealership sayed that it would cost about $225 to replace the sparkplugs on my 2003 5.4!! Is what it is costing everyone else who is getting their sparkplugs replaced by a dealership? That amount is total including parts and labor.
Seem not to be to far out of line if plugs are included.
Look at it this way, if you subtract the cost of the plugs (about 8 x 12 = $96, then subtract this amount from the $225, thats leaves $130.
If you divide the shop rate say $40 per hour, thats 3-1/4 hours for the work.
I don't know what your breakdown would be but this is about how to tell is it's close.
The dealer shop rates are a killer on what you often think is an easy quick job.
That's just the way things are now.

IT COST ME OVER $400! shop rates are $65/hour...and i got new boots for $11 each.
If you have the tools it would be worth your time to do it yourself. It is not as hard as you think. I have attached an article with some pointers, hope this helps. https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...ter_F150s.html

if i knew about this site before, i would've done them myself, just for the fun of it...especially since i had them change (and charge for) the COP boots.
Im going to change the plugs in my truck tonight and i was wondering what you guys think about plug wires. I have 152000 on the clock and i figured maybe i should put a set of plug wires in. Is it worth it?.... Should i go for OEM or is there some aftermarket that will give more perfomance? This is on the truck in my sig.

let me show my ignorance to all....the 99 doesn't have COP?
I never did like the fact that i can't change my wires.
All 5.4L Tritons have COPs. Early 4.6L Tritons have coil packs and spark plug wires. Not sure where the switch to COPs was for the 4.6, around 2000 I think.
Ya my 99 has 2 coil packs. Im thinkin about a jacobs ignition system some time but for the time being. Is it necesary to replace the wires ever? Do they wear out?

Use only the OEM wiresets-The aftermarkets don't do anything but drain your wallet, and when they fail in a few months-you'll be buying more again.
I know several dealers that will sell the OEM wiresets for right at $70.

Yes, the extreme temps of getting hot and cold breaks down the wires over time. The resistance goes up and the outer casings can wear and cause arcing.
